The Evergreen Local School District was formed in 1964 with the merger of Fulton, Lyons, Metamora and Chesterfield districts in Fulton and Lucas counties. The district encompasses 128 square miles. Currently Evergreen is comprised of four school buildings -- three public and one parochial school. These schools serve more than 1400 students.
The district was named by Mrs. Ruth Gephart in the mid 60's. It was named as a symbol of continual growth; the word "ever" meaning long-living, the word "green" suggesting the deep root system representing the school and children. At first the mascot was a Viking ship representing strength. Over the years it became the Viking himself, fearless of no one.
The school system prides itself on its strong educational programs headed by a fully certified staff. The size of Evergreen schools also proves to be an added advantage to our students. We are proud of our student-teacher ratio and extra-curricular programs that are offered. Transportation is provided to all students in grades K-12. The school system is organized into three separate schools; K-5 elementary school, 6-8 middle school, and 9-12 high school. Evergreen is recognized as a leader in the integration of technology into the curriculum. Over 400 computers located in labs and classrooms are utilized in learning at all levels.
Learning is a life-long endeavor. Our goal is to challenge students academically, to promote good citizenship, and to help young people mature into responsible adults. A great deal of pride exists in the community toward this school system. This is evidenced by the support of the two new and one renovated school as a result of an Ohio School Facilities Project.
The Board of Education will prepare its students to be engaged and productive citizens by providing a rigorous and relevant curriculum in a safe and healthy learning environment, having high expectations for academic success, encouraging the development of critical thinking skills, supporting opportunities for problem-solving and presentation skills, encouraging the development of positive character traits by learning to adapt to change and working as part of a team.
SCHOOL DELAYS AND CANCELATION INFO
We have changed over to a new school messaging service called Power Announcement. We will no longer be using Honeywell Instant Alert as a communication tool. This change will save money and, hopefully, improve our ability to communicate with families. Power Announcement is expected to make it easier and more accurate to contact families through email, voice and text messaging. Power Announcement is integrated within the existing PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you logon to the Parent Portal, you should see a new link called Power Announcement on the left hand side of your screen. Within this section of the Parent Portal, you will be able to choose your communication preferences.
Power Announcement, uses the information in PowerSchool to send out messages, which is especially important for school delays and closures. We must have accurate information in order to contact you. If you need phone numbers changed or e-mail addresses updated please contact us to update that information.
Below are some important links to help you set up your Power Announcement preferences once you have created your PowerSchool Parent Account.
If you have not yet created a PowerSchool Parent Account click on this link POWERSCHOOL PARENT/STUDENT ACCESS. You should have received a letter with an Access ID and Access Password, along with directions on how create your account. These are required in order to access your child's grades and attendance. With a parent login, you will also be able to choose how you will receive important school information, such as delays and cancelations. If you are experiencing problems creating your account or need another copy of the letter please email: email@example.com
